Steve Tompos -
Class of 1985

Inducted January, 2006
In high school, Steve was a four-year letterman in track.
He ran cross-country his junior and senior years at the school.
He earned a bachelor's degree
in journalism from the Ohio State University, specializing in public relations. While
at OSU, Steve received academic recognition, including
the university's Presidential Award of Excellence. Steve earned his master's
degree from Ohio University. As
commandant of the cadets in OSU's Army ROTC program, Steve
led the group of 500 across the football field during halftime of the
1988 Michigan
vs. OSU game in a tribute
to the military. He was commissioned a U.S. Army second lieutenant
in air defense artillery, and also served in the Ohio National
Guard.
Steve's career led him to serve in a number of humanitarian
relief efforts. He was deployed to Iowa in 1993 to help provide
fresh water and other support to those
devastated by floods there. He also has been active in supporting the Ronald
McDonald House Charities
and provided rescue and relief aid to California residents devastated by
wildfires.
As senior director of communications for the McDonald's
Corp., Steve provides strategic management communications
counsel to the company's U.S. senior executive leadership
team.
In 1999, he received McDonald's President's
Award, a level of recognition earned by fewer than 1 percent
of the corporation's employees.
