Bailey, Mr. Ellis - Teacher, Rosemore Junior High

Ellis C. Bailey

Died Saturday, April 12, 1997.

Born March 23, 1918 in Mid, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Alice Lloyd Junior College in Kentucky, Franklin University, and the Ohio State University.

He taught math, science, and Ohio history in the Groveport and Whitehall school systems following a number of years in Kentucky.

He retired in 1984 after 30 years of teaching.

He was survived by wife, Marie; daughter, "Babbs" Barbara Lou (Larry) Harrow; sons, Duane (Sharon) and Ellis James; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Fanny Stevens, Creasie (Paul) Escue; brothers, Dillard (Cassie), Amos (Nanna).

The funeral service was held at EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 4171 E. Livingston Ave. on Tuesday , April 15, 1997, with Pastor Ellen Phillips officiating. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to the Mr. Carmel East Hospice.

I remember Mr. Bailey as a caring, soft-spoken teacher (I guess there was no need for a raised voice with "Old Betsy" nearby). While this photograph shows more gray hair than I recollect, the smile is one I saw often and remember well.

Rosemore Junior High School had a lot of outstanding teachers the two years I was there. Without a doubt, Mr. Bailey was one of the "best of the best." He challenged us, encouraged us, provided us with the opportunity to learn - and did it all with grace and good humor.

Don Bell, faculty 1958-1991

To this day I still call him Mr. Wesler, because I had the utmost respect for this man. He was one of the teachers that I will always remember.

I'll never forget the high school years and how he always encouraged me to stick with it and do my best at a time when I was ready to give up. He will be missed by so many people.

A few years ago, we had a band reunion for the people who were there during the time that we called the Wesler years. We had such a great turnout, and Mr. Wesler was very pleased and honored that so many people cared.
