WE HAD A BLAST AT THE REUNION!
By Nancy (Keller) Fitton
By 11:00 pm Saturday night (at Little Turtle Country
Club), Elvin Henson and I were complaining that our faces hurt from
laughing so much!
It seemed to me like this was the most well-attended
reunion we've had, probably due in part to our stages of life (most no
longer have small children) and e-mail.
It was a surprise to see Rex Gregg, who I had not seen since
graduation. He is a basketball coach (who has received many honors) in
Georgia - his brother Van is coach at Whitehall. His parents are doing
well.

Lots of people have grandchildren.
Jerry McFann is a hostage
negotiator for Columbus Police - has been an officer for over 20 years,
I think.
I sat next to Debbie Orr at the dinner - one of the reasons I couldn't
quit laughing. They gave a prize for the longest hair - the only
competitors were Mark Fisher and Glenn Cook! They just happened to have
grown up next door to each other on Medway.
Mark wanted to give a prize
for any Jews present, but only he and Sue Eisenberg qualified, I think.
You can tell that they were grasping at straws for prize categories
towards the end

Saturday night's festivities started at 6:00 PM. The JuJuBees, with Jim Lynch and Bob
Ochsendorf, was the band who played. Thanks to Cricket (Sharp) Such who very generously footed
the bill.
The JuJuBees
were fabulous and had everyone up and dancing til about 1:00 am.
We also had a casual get-together on Friday night
at Capoziello's on Hamilton Rd. and a family picnic (which I couldn't
attend) on Sunday at
Whitehall Park.

Shaun Strahm had organized a nice slide show with old and present-day
pictures which gave us a lot of laughs.
A lot of us were saying that it
would be nice to have a reunion with several classes, since we all had
friends in different grades.
We also thought it would be neat to have
it in the high school gym, maybe use it as a fund raiser for the school.
Hey, maybe we could have a basketball game or something like that with
the former players, cheerleaders and band members!
We could only get
through it if we could keep from laughing ourselves to death!

When they asked the crowd who had changed the least since high school,
I lept up and loudly volunteered myself - and John Rankin, the MC, said,
"Yeah, except for a few pounds!".
Actually, Mr. Arbaugh got that prize.
He really looks just the same as he did when he taught us English in
high school.
I wish we had had more teachers there.

The reunion committee did a fabulous job. They printed a wonderful booklet
with everyone's names and addresses, as well as all the past reunion
group pictures, and our senior pictures as well as those from 7th & 8th
grades.
I am still enjoying the little bios that some people sent in
that were included in the booklet.

WYHS "All Class Reunion" Note: Nancy mentioned something about a reunion with several classes. There is a message thread started on Planet Alumni , about an "all class" reunion. Pleave visit Planet Alumni , do their free registration, and add your two cents to the "All Class Reunion" discussion. (scroll down for a step-by-step overview of navigating through Planet Alumni's site)
Do you think an "All Class" reunion is a good idea? Where should it be held (Whitehall Park (formerly Rockwell Park), the high school, Orton Davis...errr, Bishop Park)? When should it be held (4th of July, Homecoming)? Would you come? Would you help put the thing together?
If your friends and classmates would like to visit Planet Alumni , there's a link to the Planet Alumni site on our page at http://www.wyhs.org/links

The fine folks at Planet Alumni make you go through a few screens to reach to the WYHS discussion area. Here's how to get there:
-
Click on the Planet Alumni link, which takes you to the Planet Alumni home page
-
In the left-hand column you'll see three categories, "My Account," "Communities" and "Contact." The first link in the "Communities" category is "high school." Click on the "high school" link.
-
Click on the "Ohio" link.
-
Click on the "W" link.
-
You'll come to a page that says there are multiple pages of schools for Ohio. Towards the bottom of the page you can pick the page you want to view. As I write this, WYHS is on page four. Click on the "4" near the bottom of the page.
-
As I write this, WYHS is listed twice, once as "Whitehall Yearling High School (Whitehall)" and once as "Whitehall-Yearling HS (Whitehall)." Click on the first one, "Whitehall Yearling High School (Whitehall)"
-
You'll see a list of discussions. Click on the "All Class Reunion" title to get to the discussion.
If you haven't already gone through Planet Alumni's free registration process, you'll need to do so before you can participate in the discussion. The free registration is painless, and as far as I can tell they don't do a thing with your information except send you periodic reminders when someone has signed up in the WYHS section of Planet Alumni (and you can turn that off if you want).
