  • The Beatles split up.

  • IBM introduces the floppy disk (invented by Yoshuito Nakamats in 1950).

  • New English Bible launched, sells 1 million copies in first week.

At dmarie.com, they say this about that spring:

Four students are killed and nine others wounded at Kent State University when National Guardsmen, called in to disperse a student antiwar demonstration, fire on the crowd.

President Nixon signs in to law a bill allowing 18-year-olds the right to vote in federal elections.

Top songs included "Close to You," by the Carpenters; "Mama Told Me," by Three Dog Night, and "I Want You Back" by the Jackson Five.

Nancy says: "The guy with the whistle was a teacher, I think, but can't remember his name. The girl with the braids looking at him is Debbie Klein. The girl behind her with her hands up by her face (in the middle) is Sherry Luft. I don't remember what they were doing, but Debbie was a cheerleader and Sherry was a Ramette, so it was probably a skit at a pep rally."
