The January meeting of the WYHS Alumni Association was held on
January 24, 2004 at Rooster’s. We discussed a theme for the Reunion,
and the agenda for the fundraiser event itself.
Clark Fuller suggested the theme of “Moving Forward and Giving Back” for
the weekend of September 24 – 26, 2004, the All Class Reunion. This suggestion
was agreed upon by all present and was adopted as our theme for the reunion.
Leo Knoblauch spoke with the Parks & Recreation Commission regarding obtaining
the Community Park free of charge for the Friday afternoon events. He
was informed that the only groups who could use the park free of charge were
scout troops
and schools. Our organization fell under the latter, and we will be using
the Community Park to host the Friday reception/registration events.
Clark Fuller and his committee gave us a rundown of what they
want to do with the Friday afternoon events, which was basically
a “kickoff” type
event to the other events for the weekend and reception/registration for Alumni.
We will also have a table set up with name tags & registration information
at the football game that evening. The Friday events will take place
between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Superintendent Meloy has offered use of at
least one
(1) school bus as a shuttle between the park and the school to alleviate
any parking problems that may occur.
Leo has said he will speak with Mayor Ochsendorff about getting
one police officer to direct traffic at the park during the
day.
Clark and his committee then informed us of the “post – game” event
taking place at Capiozello’s from 7:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. Friday night.
This event will likely have a $5 - $7 per person charge.
Leo Knoblauch then advised the group regarding his plans for
the Saturday events. He suggested a parade in the morning to
get things started and get
people out
to see what is going on. This suggestion was agreed to, and Leo
said he would speak to the WCCA members about helping line up
the parade. The parade
will start
between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at either Etna Road or Holy
Spirit. Leo will speak to Father LaRusso regarding starting at
Holy Spirit. We have
the entire
school available to us for the day, until 3:00 p.m. with the
exception of the multipurpose room, which will be closed off
to keep the floors from
being scuffed.
Leo is going to allow the booster groups first chance to sell
concessions and raise money during the day at the school. He
will also have his scanner
set up
in one of the larger rooms to scan any photos anyone might bring
in.
The various classrooms will be open and each graduating class
will be assigned a ‘homeroom’ where classmates can write messages to each
other on the boards, gather to talk, etc.
Rachel Duvall is planning an event for Saturday evening for those
people who do not have their own class reunion to attend and
want someplace to go.
At this
time, she had no other information to share. She is going to
speak with Curtis Eugene Lovell II regarding this. Curtis is
an event planner who is a
WYHS graduate.
Debbie Malmevik informed us that she will be doing her pancake
breakfast at the school. but had no other details at that
time.
Rob Fish is going to update the information contained in our
database.
Leo Knoblauch spoke with the school treasurer, Tim Penton, and
the Columbus Foundation regarding setting up a non – profit Foundation.
It was suggested that until the organization sets up its own
accounts, any individuals who are wanting to donate money send
the money to the person
in charge of the
event they want to donate to. This suggestion was agreed to.
Leo will check with the school regarding obtaining a rider on
their insurance policy.
It was suggested that we begin developing a flyer or some other
item to be sent to all alumni reminding them of the Reunion
and the Foundation.
Respectfully submitted,
Rachel Duvall
