There were 18 of us on the Alumni Team this year, and I think everyone had a great time. I'm sure they all had a good time while the "team picture" was being taken a half time. Look at all those smiles!
There was some rain right before the game started, and those alumni who arrived early to warm up got kind of wet. But it turned into a beautiful day for a soccer game, even though the temperature was in the 80's and the humidity was close to 70%.
About the only complaint I heard was there wasn't enough playing time to go around. Personally, I felt like I got plenty of playing time - I just didn't think there was enough oxygen to go around.
Bob Webb, the Varsity Assistant Coach, coached the Varsity team while Lee Jeffers, Class of 1988 and Varsity Head Coach, played on the field with the Alumni team. That's Bob (in the gray tee shirt) with the players who started for the WYHS Varsity. The soccer team graduated 11 seniors last year. Lee and Bob will be coaching a young team this season, which will be the team's last in the Buckeye Athletic Association.
With 15 goals scored in the game, at times it looked like both teams were using my patented "Swiss Cheese" defense (the one with lots of holes in it). It is a good thing we played on a short field, or I would have been in a lot of trouble - trying to run the full length of a full-sized field.
The Varsity team started the game with a quick flurry of goals - scoring two times in the opening minutes. It looked for a while like this year's Alumni Team might be only the second WYHS Alumni Team to lose to the Varsity in the 9 year history of Alumni vs Varsity games.
But then the Alumni Team pulled ahead with goals by _____, then _____, then ____, and _____. At half time the Alumni Team led by a score of 4 to 3. That's Lee on the right - he three goals and had two assists.
The Alumni Team continued scoring in the second half, at one time leading by a score of 8 to 5 (or was it 8 to 4?). The Varsity team, however, fought back, scoring 2 (or 3?) goals in the last few minutes to make the final score 8 to 7 in favor of the Alumni Team.
Goals
in the second half were scored by Lee Jeffers, then _____ , then Lee
Jeffers again, and then I scored what turned out to be the winning goal.
Nick Ressa played keeper in the first
half and Jerry Brooks was in goal for the second half.
Several of my alumni teammates told me to be sure and point out the winning goal was scored by the oldest alumnus on the field (Class of 1971).
Here's the roster for the 2002 Alumni Soccer Team. The oldest player graduated from WYHS in 1971. The youngest graduated in 2002. We all had a great time, and we all wish this year's soccer team the best of luck. Go Rams!

Sandy Tanev, Class of 2002
After graduating I got a great job at Nationwide Insurance downtown, working all summer until school starts.
I am attending Ohio State University in September, not for soccer, but for something that I have been wanting to do all my life. I plan on submitting a portfolio in February to be accepted into the Industrial Design School of the Arts at OSU. Right now I am enrolled in Pre-Design.
After that, I hope to be part of a team designing the latest cars for the future. But don't worry, I will always be back, ready to kick some butt...who ever said a girl couldn't play on a 'boy's soccer team'? :-)
Until Next Year,
Sandy Tanev #13 (2002)
Jerry Brooks, Class of 1981

I was the oldest player on the field. Heck - I was probably the oldest person involved in the game, being older than the coaches and the refs.
I'm the creator/webmaster of wyhs.org. I married Paula Replogle, class of '71, and we have three great kids. Paula contracted multiple sclerosis and can't be left alone for long periods of time, so I've got a home-based business ( www.ccreations.com ) that allows me to work from the house and take care of Paula. There's more info than anyone would care to know about me on my personal web site, robfish.com
After graduating from Whitehall in 1988, I went on to get a Bachelor of Arts in English (Professional Writing) from Capital University in 1992. I also received my teaching certificate in high school English in 1993 from Capital.
I have held a number of jobs from bank courrier to retail manager to substitute teacher. I still substitute teach at Whitehall on occassion. I also have two businesses that I run from my home. One is an internet business called Starr-Hill Online, where I show people how to make money with e-commerce. Check out my web page at www.bww.com/starrhill. It's password protected, but the password is "guest."
My second business is a business writing / public relations business called Eagle Writing (web site to come). I handle a variety of business writing for companies from brochures to newsletters to web content to manuals just to name a few. My phone number for both businesses is toll free 1-866-605-5393. Substitute teaching gives me the flexablity to work my businesses when I need to.
I am married (wife's name is Amy -- and it's a different Amy than Lee's wife) with one adorable little girl who will be one year old on October 20 (ten days after Lee's little boy, Logan). Is that weird or what? Our wives' names are the same and we have children born ten days apart. She's such a joy and hopefully someday, she'll want to play soccer, too. For now, she' just happy being "Daddy's Little Girl."

There are only a few shots from the video camera this year (it is a wee bit difficult to video tape and play at the same time. Click Here to see some still shots taken from the video camera.
Note to Alumni Team members: These pages are not finished yet. I need to fill in some blanks, including the names of everyone who scored, along with everyone who had assists. I also need to identify everyone in the pictures, add in any comments you may have, and identify everyone in the pictures on the pages linked from this one.
I'd really appreciate it if you'd E-mail me a short bio and/or a comment or two to add under your name - something the folks you graduated with would enjoy reading (scroll back up and take a look at Sandy's for an example). If you include your mailing address when you send me your comments, I'll send you an "official" "Alumni Team Magnetic-Backed Dry Erase Board."

The 2.25" x 8" dry erase board has the team picture, a magnetic backing that will stick on your refrigerator, plus a dry erase marker and a little clip to hold the marker in place.
Send your info to me rob@wyhs.org
Also, if you send along some comments, read other folks' comments, and then decide you want to change yours, just let me know.
