Thanks for the Memories!

Mike Freeman, Class of 1968, sent an Email with some memories of being a teenager in Whitehall. You'll find them on the second "Growing up in the 60's" page.

Click Here to reach the first "memory lane" page.

If you've got memories or thoughts of growing up in Whitehall, please send them along.

Send a Card

Florence (Cotterman) Borad, Class of 1961 , sent this along:

"Mrs. Case, who managed Swinland with her late husband for 30 years from 1957 to 1987, turns 86 on November 7.  She has had some health challenges recently and would be cheered to receive cards from any of you who might remember her.  Please remember to include your maiden name."

I'm a bit leery about posting someone's mailing address on the web without their permission, so I'm not going to print the mailing address here. I did include the address in the Email sent to the WYHS.org mailing list on October 30. If you didn't get that Email and would like Mrs. Case's address, please contact me.

Sad News

John Bankes, Class of 1966 recently passed away. John was a mail carrier at the Whitehall Post Office for 37 years and lived in Etna, Ohio. More info

The WYHS. org "Tigger" List

Didn't receive the Email about this newsletter? If you've registered for the Email list, take a look at the Tigger list. Oh, what the heck - check the Tigger list even if you did receive the Email about this newsletter. Maybe your sibling or best friend is on it.

The Pour House

The contents of the Pour House were auctioned off on Saturday, September 4, 2003. While I'm sure no WYHS student EVER set foot inside the place before they were "legal," today's WYHS students will no longer have the opportunity to exhibit such self-restraint. The Reynoldsburg edition of "This Week" newspapers did an article about the Pour House just before the auction. Click Here to reach theonline version of the "This Week" article.

Teachers and Staff Invited to All Class Reunion

The All Class Reunion is less than a year away, and the Alumni Association is about to ramp up efforts to contact everyone who ever went to a school in Whitehall - either as a student or an employee. Since I haven't done a real good job of making it clear, if you were a member of the faculty or on the staff at a Whitehall school, we've very much like you to take an active part in all the All Class Reunion activities.

Help Wanted

As you probably know, the All Class Reunion is less than a year away, and the Alumni Association is ramping up efforts to contact everyone.

With Email and cell phones that provide free nights/weekends, the old adage "many hands make light work" seems to apply here.

We'd like to have at least three (and hopefully five or more) alumni from your graduating class help find your classmates. We'd also like have some faculty and staff members help us find their peers.

Regardless of where you now live or how long it has been since you've had contact with anyone from Whitehall, we'd love to have you help find those folks who were your friends in Whitehall.

If you'd like to help us find and contact folks, please let me know.

Looking for Class Officers and Reuinon Committee Members

If you've got contact information for your class officers or the folks on your reunion committee, would you please send it to me so we can be sure they're "in the loop" on the All Class Reunion?

Special Thanks

At Homecoming, the Alumni Band presented the Ram Band with a JVC digital camcorder so the kids could have their great performances recorded for posterity.

Debbie Malmevick, Almni Band President, presents a new digital camcorder to Jeff Harriman, WYHS Band director.

Thanks to all Alumni who contributed to the "camcorder fund. "

Special thanks to David Rahal (at the Brice Road H.H. Gregg store, 614-755-8900) and to Larry Marcum, Class of '66 (JVC Sales) for helping the Alumni Band acquire a camcorder without blowing the band's budget.

"All Class" Reunion Planning Meeting

Our next planning meeting for the "All Class" reunion is Saturday, November 8, 2003.

We'd like to have three people from each graduating class get involved in the helping with the All Class reunion. So far, we haven't filled all three spots on any of the classes. Can you help?

Regardless of where you live, how many reunions you've been to, whether or not you were "popular" in high school, or how much contact you've had with your former classmates, we'd love to have you help us put together the reunion.

Folks who are in Central Ohio this weekend should join us at our meeting, to be held at 1:00 PM at Rooster's Restaurant & Bar, 376 S. Hamilton Road.

If you'd like to help but are outside Central Ohio or can't make the meeting, please contact someone in the Alumni Association and let us know you're interested in helping.

If at all possible, however, please come to the meeting.

"All Class" Reunion

The "All Class" reunion is less than a year away. It will be held in conjunction with Homecoming on Friday, September 24, 2004.

Whitehall Weather

As I write this, it looks like Indian Summer has arrived in Whitehall. Fall colors are about their peak, and it is sunny and warm.

Alumni Softball Game?

Ed Kowalski, class of '82, posted a message in the WYHS.org Delphi forum that asked if there's any interest in an Alumni Softball game - maybe in conjunction with the 4th of July celebration next summer.

You can read (and respond to) Ed's post and any subsequent discussion of an Alumni Softball Game in the free DelphiForums message area at http://forums.delphiforums.com/wyhsrams/messages/?msg=238.1

Class of '71 Informal Get-Together

Not a reunion. Nothing fancy - just a group of us getting together on Saturday, December 13 at the Golden Corral on E. Main Street. We'll meet at 1 for lunch and some catching up.

Reunion Dates

Homecoming - 9/23/2005.

All Class Pot Luck Picnic - 7/3/2005.

All WYHS alumni, faculty and staff are invited.

II have a small home-based business that I started when my wife's multiple sclerosis progressed to the point where she couldn't be left alone for long periods of time.

If you have a few minutes, please visit my business web site(s) and tell your friends about them.

BasicHydraulics.com
I teach a customized, one-day, in plant Basic Hydraulics course. Folks who attend the class learn what hydraulics is, how hydraulics operate, how to keep systems operating, how to read and understand hydraulic schematics, and a bunch of other stuff that helps make their hydraulic systems more effective and efficient (and their companies more profitable).

Please Click Here to visit my Basic Hydraulics web site, www.BasicHydraulics.com

CCreations.com
I make a bunch of neat stuff. The "neat stuff" includes
- inexpensive name tags with magnetic fasteners

If you're looking for "Save the Date" wedding magnets or a clock with your favorite photo, I can do that.

Class Reunions for Other Classes

One of the most difficult tasks facing folks planning a class reunion is that of finding all their classmates. You can help with that - if you have any siblings, parents or kids who went to Whitehall, let them know about the list of reunions in the right-hand column of this newsletter. That way folks can contact the reunion committee and make sure everyone has their current address.

Customized Rams Alumni Name Badges

The buttons are $5.00 each, two for $9.00, or $4.00 each for three or more buttons.

And, for just $1.25 each, you can get some hand-dandy magnet fastener bars, which allow you to wear the Name Button without poking holes in your clothing. You put the magnetic bar inside your clothing and the button outside your clothing. The magnets on the magnetic bar do a great job of holding the button in place. Please be aware the magnet is so strong that if you're wearing a pacemaker, you should not use the magnetic fastener bar.

If you'd like to order name tag buttons, please contact me.If you're going to call, I'm in the same time zone as Whitehall, and you can call any time between 9 AM and 10 PM. I'll accept payment in cash, by check, or through PayPal.com

oFishal Invitation

When I started this WYHS.org thing, my idea was to have a one page web site that was nothing more than a list of class years that showed each classes next reunion date and the name of the primary contact for the reunion.

The site has kind of grown beyond that. One reason for that growth is how much fun it has been to meet folks who went to school in Whitehall - from people who graduated from high school back when I was 3 years old to the newest alumni who are three years younger than my youngest child.

With this alumni stuff the phrase that pays is "the more, the merrier." Please plan on attending the All Class Reunion and Homecoming this year - you'll have a ton of fun, see some old friends, and make some new friends.

See 'ya at an Alumni event!

Alumni Band

Practice the week of Homecoming. Pre-game and half-time performances at Homecoming. Contact: Jeff Harriman, WYHS Band Director

Debbie Malmevik, Alumni Band President, says practices will be September 29, September 30, and October 2 at 7 PM (that's Monday, Tuesday and Thursday). The Parade/Bonfire will be Wednesday, October 1 at 6 PM. Practices are in the school's Band Room.

On Game Day, be in the Band Room at 5 PM for one last run through (or maybe the first run through).

On Game Day, Alumni should wear a white top and dark pants.

Please note: If you play a musical instrument and ever attended Whitehall schools, you are a member in good standing of the WYHS alumni band. No auditions. No dues. No big commitment. You don't even have to come to the practices (though the practices are a lot of fun). Just show up, walk around on the field (or march on the field, if you prefer), and have a great time.
